At Lal - The Honey Company, we're proud to carry on Ethiopia's rich history of beekeeping and to share the unique flavors of Ethiopian honey with the world. With 10 million honeybee colonies, Ethiopia is the largest producer of honey in Africa and 10th in the world. Despite only producing 10% of our potential, we're proud to be one of the top honey-producing countries in the world.

We started Lal in 2017 with the goal of bringing the diverse flavors of Ethiopian honey to a global audience. We work to modernize beekeeping practices while valuing and incorporating indigenous knowledge and traditions. Our name, Lal, is a nod to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lalibela, known for its rock-cut monolithic churches.

In Ethiopia, honey has a special place in our culture. It's used as an offering in religious practices, as an article of gift or trade, as medicine, and as an important ingredient in the making of honey mead called Tej - one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in the world.

We search for the most delicious honey varieties from all corners of Ethio- pia. Our honey varies in color, consistency, and aroma, depending on the region. We take pride in collecting, packing, and showcasing the purest and most unique Ethiopian honey varieties in high-quality packaging. Currently, Lal is available at over 25 locations in the heart of Addis Ababa and in the US market since December 2022. Lal is committed to telling Ethiopia's collective honey history, sharing the centuries-old traditional beekeeping that has sustained the largest bee colony in Africa, one honey variety, and one community at a time.
