WENCHI Raw Honey
Description
From the Crater to Your Table
At 3,400 meters above sea level, a dormant volcano cradles one of Ethiopia's most breathtaking landscapes, a deep blue lake, cascading waterfalls, mineral hot springs, and wildflower meadows that stretch across the crater slopes of Wenchi. This is where your honey comes from.
Wenchi Raw Honey is harvested once a year, at the end of the rainy season between October and December, after the high-altitude wildflowers have had months to bloom in full color. The bees of Wenchi feed primarily on Egynia abyssinica (Kosso) and Erica arborea (Hasta), endemic Ethiopian flora that give this honey its distinctly floral, lightly caramelized character.
Taste Profile
Warm amber in color. Fine, smooth grain with a naturally creamy texture. The aroma is intensely floral with soft notes of lightly toasted caramel. On the palate, it's smooth and round with medium acidity, complex enough to enjoy straight from the jar, balanced enough to elevate anything it touches.
A Honey With a Story
Wenchi is not just a place, it's a recognized treasure. Lake Wenchi was named Best Tourist Village in the World by the UN World Tourism Organization in 2021. Its honey carries that same distinction. Since 2009, Wenchi Volcano Honey has been designated a Slow Food Presidium as part of the Honeys of Ethiopia network, recognizing its cultural significance and exceptional quality.
The beekeepers of Wenchi have worked these volcanic slopes for generations. Today, a dedicated community cooperative continues that tradition, harvesting raw, unfiltered honey the right way, one season at a time.
Why Raw Matters
Lal honey is never heated, never filtered, never blended. What goes into the jar is exactly what came from the hive: pollen, enzymes, antioxidants, and flavor, fully intact. Natural crystallization may occur over time; this is a sign of purity, not spoilage. Simply place the jar in warm water to restore its smooth texture.
Ingredient: 100% Raw Ethiopian Honey, No Added Sugar. No Additives. Product of Ethiopia.
